ACTION ALERT
Free Puvungna, Sacred Native American Land on Campus
CSULB is obligated by a settlement agreement with a local Native American tribe to preserve 12 acres of Puvungna, the Native American historical, cultural, and spiritual site on campus that is sacred to the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, Acjachemen Nation – Belardes; the Gabrielino-Tongva; and other Southern California Tribal groups. Campus administration is stalling the process with no legitimate explanation.
There are too many examples in the U.S. of Indigenous people being promised their land would be protected, then those in power breaking their promises. Action is needed to ensure that the university honors its legally binding agreement and places Puvungna into a permanent conservation easement immediately.
Please take one or more of the following actions today:
1. Contact President Jane Close Conoley and CSU Trustees to demand the university take action immediately to keep its commitment to protect Puvungna.
