Promoting an Indigenous Land Back Acquisition

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California formed the Waší·šiw Land Trust and purchased 10,274 acres of ecologically significant homelands northeast of Lake Tahoe, named WélmeltiɁ Preserve. This historic Land Back acquisition, the largest ever completed in the Sierra Nevada and the third largest in California, returns lands to the Washoe people who stewarded them for millennia. The land was purchased specifically for long-term conservation.

Project

Working with the Washoe Tribe, the Northern Sierra Partnership, and the Feather River Land Trust, Public Good PR created a new website for the Waší·šiw Land Trust and promoted the funding and purchase of this land. Our efforts garnered widespread media coverage in California, Nevada, and nationally.
